Interim Executive Director – PLS

Position: Interim Executive Director
Reports to: Board of Directors (the Board Chair and Vice Chair will be available to meet on a regular schedule with the Interim E.D.)
Supervises: Co-supervises nine Directors alongside PLS’ Litigation Director as well as five other direct reports.
Schedule: ASAP, ideally by July 12th
The Board anticipates a 4-6 month interim period before a permanent director is hired. Candidates should be available a minimum of 20hrs hours per week

PLS (www.plsma.org) is a strong, well-managed non-profit legal services organization. The Interim ED will sustain the success of PLS while supporting continuing implementation of the organization’s strategic plan, which was adopted in 2021. The interim will be responsible for managing operations and supporting staff and the leadership team as they advance programmatic work.

Priorities: During the interim period there are several priority areas that will require the Interim ED’s attention:
  1. Collaborate with the development and finance team to complete organizational budgets, grant budgets and grant reporting and applications. Meet regularly with the Finance Manager, development team and Executive Assistant on finance and funding matters, as well as with the Board’s Finance Committee. Collaborate on PLS’ events, including its annual event in November.
  2. Work with the Director of Human Resources to continue to implement improvements and systematization of human resources practices and policies for staff.
  3. Ensure there is continued support for the organization’s internal and external equity work.
  4. Partner with the Communications and Development team on external communications when needed, and collaborate with staff to sustain relationships with policy makers, partners, and the community.
  5. Facilitate relationship between staff and Board.
  6. Work with staff to ensure that programmatic work is in alignment with project goals and the strategic plan.
  7. Foster collaboration and relationship-building among staff through the transition to new leadership.
Qualifications:
  • Seasoned nonprofit manager with successful senior level experience managing an organization (programs, strategy, human resources, finances, and systems/infrastructure)
  • Strategic thinker who is good at making decisions with an understanding of how they impact the big picture.
  • Team builder who is good with coaching staff for effective collaboration and results. Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong and demonstrated commitment to race equity.
  • Strong strategic fiscal management, oversight and budgeting skills
  • Good understanding of the operational and back-office systems and infrastructure of a nonprofit (HR, Finance, IT, etc.)
  • Experience working with boards of directors.
